L'Imperial Palace Olympic Poster Collection
The Olympic posters are referred to as L'Imperial Palace Olympic Poster Collection. It consists of over 3,000 (three thousand) posters dating back to the late 1800's at the start of the Modern Olympic Games and on through more recent times. (The current Olympics are referred as the "Modern" games as compared to the "Ancient" Olympics dating back millennia.) The Collection is easily the finest of its type in the world. By comparison, the Olympic Museum in Switzerland has a poster collection consisting of 500 posters. Virtually every rare image created for the Olympics is included in this wonderful Collection.
Alternating between the Summer and Winter Games, the Olympics are held every two years in a different host nation. These host countries not only produce posters for the general games but also posters for specific sporting events (i.e., swimming, skiing, etc.) Consequently, the posters exist in many languages and are quite handsome. (Naturally, each country has tried to graphically outdo any prior efforts.) The posters are in beautiful condition. Each one is professionally framed, essentially creating an instant museum. (The cost for this framing alone would be $250-350 per poster.) Every poster has been professionally photographed and accurately described on an interactive DVD. The Collection is stored outside the U.S. and can be seen by appointment.
